GBuddy is the mascot of the Game Boy Museum.

WHY A COLLECTION BUILT THIS
---------------------------

A collection can show what a machine was. It is more interesting still
to see what a machine of 1989 can do when nobody tells it the answer.

This cartridge joins three others built for the collection: a reference
work in the manner of the Infogenius titles of 1991, a diagnostic
cartridge, and a label printer.

THE METHOD
----------

Q-learning was described by Christopher Watkins in his doctoral thesis
"Learning from Delayed Rewards", University of Cambridge, 1989. That is
the year the Game Boy came out. This cartridge uses the method in its
simplest form, a table of values for every field and direction, kept in
whole numbers because the Game Boy has no hardware for fractions.

TYPEFACE
--------

PixelOperator8 by Jayvee Enaguas, released under CC0 1.0 Universal,
which places it in the public domain. No attribution is required. It is
credited here because it deserves to be.

TOOLCHAIN
---------

Written in C, built with GBDK-2020 and SDCC. AI tools were part of
the work.

The GBDK and SDCC runtime libraries are distributed under the GNU
General Public License version 2 with a linking exception. That
exception states that linking the library into an executable does not by
itself place the executable under the GPL, which is why this cartridge
can carry its own terms.

    SDCC https://sdcc.sourceforge.net

Tested with PyBoy, against the compiled ROM: learning and relearning,
the test leaving his memory untouched, the status messages, the editor,
and saving, including damaged and interrupted saves. Tested on original
DMG-01 hardware as well.

REFERENCES

The hardware behaviour this cartridge relies on is documented publicly,
above all in

----------
