As the Game Boy took off, third-party makers produced all kinds of cases. The Portable Carry-All by ASCII is one of them, built for safe transport of the console with room for four games and the stereo headphones (DMG-02).

Its larger sibling, the Carry-All DLX, and the ASCII soft-case are also catalogued in the collection.

The Carry-All DLX is the bigger version of the ASCII Portable Carry-All, built to hold a full Game Boy kit. One side carries the console, manuals, the 4-Player Adapter (DMG-07), headphones (DMG-02), four AA batteries, a Game Light, the link cable and the Battery Pack (DMG-03); the other holds twelve games in their cases plus the battery pack's power cable.

Many of those accessories are catalogued individually in the collection, as is the smaller Carry-All.

The Carry-All soft-case by ASCII is built for safe transport of the Game Boy, with room for the console, the Battery Pack (DMG-03), the original stereo headphones (DMG-02) and eight games.

It is the soft-case companion to ASCII's hard organizers, both of which are catalogued in the collection.

This rare carrying case by A.L.S. Industries holds the Game Boy, two games and four AA batteries, with a belt loop for easy transport.

A.L.S. also produced the Game Boy-shaped GB-70 storage case, which is catalogued in the collection.

This 1994 storage case by A.L.S. Industries is shaped like a Game Boy itself. It is built for safe transport and holds the console, six games, game booklets, a link cable and the stereo headphones (DMG-02).

A.L.S. also made the simpler GB-10 carrying case, which is catalogued in the collection.

The Game Boy Safe by Dynasound is a hard case built for safe transport of the console, with room for five games and the stereo headphones (DMG-02).

It is one of many hard cases in the collection, which range from official Nintendo designs to third-party organizers.

This 1990 shoulder bag by Mori Toys is both a carrying bag and a protective cover for the Game Boy, cushioning it against falls.

It was sold only in Japan. It is one of several protective carrying solutions in the collection.

The Illuminator is a rare light for the Game Boy, made to deal with the console's lack of a backlight. It is a simple device built around a single bulb on a flexible swivel arm, so the player can position the light wherever it is needed.

It was distributed by Greer & Associates and is one of the scarcer entries in the collection's large group of Game Boy lights.

The Gamester Light Magnifier is one more answer to the Game Boy's lack of a backlight. Its design follows the Light Max (VLB-02) very closely, which the collection also holds.

Lights and magnifiers like this were made in large numbers by many companies, and the collection documents a good cross-section of them.

The Nuby Game Light (GC-5) lit up the Game Boy screen, answering the console's lack of a backlight.

It was later followed by the Game Light Plus (GC-17), which combined this light with a magnifying lens. Both, along with the separate Nuby Magnifier (GC-6), are catalogued in the collection, tracing the development of Nuby's Game Boy accessory line.

The Game Boy's screen was small, and the Nuby Game Magnifier (GC-6) set out to help by roughly doubling its size.

It was part of a Nuby product line: the Game Light (GC-5) and the Magnifier (GC-6) were later combined into the Game Light Plus (GC-17). All three are catalogued in the collection, which shows how Nuby developed and merged its Game Boy accessories over time.

Alongside Nintendo's own DMG-02 headphones, third-party makers produced headphones designed for the Game Boy. The American manufacturer Labtec sold theirs in a case that keeps them from tangling or getting damaged in transport.

It is a licensed alternative to Nintendo's official set, which is also catalogued in the collection.

Like the Nuby Amplifier, the Sunsoft Sound Boy set out to fix the Game Boy's single mono speaker, which never matched the stereo sound many games were written in.

Sunsoft, better known as a game developer, plugged the unit into the headphone socket that carried the native stereo signal and added a built-in amplifier for a fuller sound. This is the 1993 Japanese release; the very similar Nuby Amplifier from the US is also in the collection.

The Master Pak by Naki gathers many of the most popular Game Boy add-ons into one set: an adjustable magnifying glass with light (Brite Beam), a cleaning kit (Eliminator), an AC adapter, a shoulder bag (Pro Pouch), a battery pack (Action Pak) and a replacement deco screen (Cool Screen).

It is one of the most comprehensive packages ever put together for the Game Boy. Several of those Naki items, such as the Cool Screen and Action Pak, are also catalogued individually in the collection.

The Game Accessory Kit by Recoton brings together many of the most popular Game Boy add-ons in one set: an adjustable magnifying glass with light, a cleaning kit, an AC adapter, a water-resistant carry case and stereo earbuds.

It is one of the most comprehensive Game Boy packages, much like the Naki Master Pak that is also catalogued in the collection.

This cleaning kit does the same job as Nintendo's official tool, clearing the dirty cartridge contacts that often caused Game Boy games to misbehave, but in a Pikachu design by Morigang.

It is an unlicensed Japanese accessory and one of the Pokemon-themed items in the collection, alongside the official and Nuby cleaning kits.

Dirty cartridge contacts were a frequent cause of Game Boy problems, and Nuby's Cleaning Kit (GC-18) was a third-party answer to the same issue Nintendo's official kit addressed. It gently cleans the contacts of both cartridges and the Game Boy's slot.

It is the unlicensed US counterpart to the official DMG-08 kits held in the collection.

Saitek's BoosterBoy is probably the most unusual and largest accessory ever made for the Game Boy. Much like the Konami Hyperboy, it turns the handheld into a small arcade machine, adding lighting, powerful stereo speakers, a screen magnifier, an arcade stick and storage for games and headphones.

It runs on four C batteries, which can also power the Game Boy itself. The collection also holds the Konami Hyperboy and the Top Boy, the other arcade-style units of this kind.

The Top Boy is a giant of a Game Boy accessory that swallows the console whole. It is very similar to the Konami Hyperboy but appears to be unlicensed, with no maker named on the device.

Powerful stereo speakers, a magnifier, front lights and an arcade stick turn the Game Boy into a small arcade machine, powered by two D batteries. The collection also holds the Konami Hyperboy and the Saitek BoosterBoy, the other accessories of this arcade type.

The PowerBase is a docking station for the Game Boy combined with a rechargeable battery system. The pack fits directly into the battery compartment in place of AA cells, and the set includes a mains adapter and a charging base that recharges the pack at home or powers the console directly. An LED shows the charge status, and the base has room for up to four cartridges. The packaging quotes about ten hours of play per charge.

Made under the Gamester LMP brand, the PowerBase was a commercial failure and was produced in limited numbers, which makes it a scarce item today. The simpler LMP Power Pack is also in the collection.
