Game Boy

The Barcode Boy, developed by Sofel and released by Namcot in 1992, attaches to the Game Boy and lets it scan barcodes. Games such as Monster Maker: Barcode Saga used scanned cards to customise characters and battle opponents.

This is one of the bundled Barcode Boy sets, the usual way the hardware was sold since it cannot be used on its own. The first bundle and the rare standalone version are also catalogued in the collection.
