Pokémon Gold and its twin Silver opened the second generation of Pokémon, taking trainers to the new region of Johto with 100 new species, a real-time day-and-night cycle, and a late surprise return to Kanto for a second adventure. It remains one of the most ambitious games ever built for the Game Boy.
This is the Japanese release, Pocket Monsters Gold (DMG-AAUJ-JPN). It is a dual-mode Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridge, so it still runs on the original DMG-01 in shades of grey. Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, it reached Japan in 1999.
