Game Boy

The Radio Boy is an officially licensed Nintendo novelty, styled to look exactly like a Game Boy. It is not a games accessory but a working AM/FM radio, with a tuning dial where the screen would be, Game Boy-style buttons and a stereo earphone, powered by batteries just like the console it imitates.

Released in 1993 and carrying the item number 83003, it belongs to the same wave of Game Boy-shaped gadgets as Mani's Walkie Talkie Boy, Time Boy clock and Calculator Boy, several of which are catalogued in the collection. Novelties like this show how far the Game Boy silhouette travelled beyond gaming in the mid-1990s.
