GAME BOY™ WATCH BOY™

Nintendo licensed Watch Boy, a Game Boy shaped LCD wristwatch by Mani, 1995

The Watch Boy is an officially licensed Nintendo novelty made by Mani, a working LCD wristwatch built to look like a miniature Game Boy, complete with a tiny screen and directional pad on the face. Beyond the time it shows the month, date and day of the week, switches between 12 and 24 hour display, and adds an alarm and a six-digit chronograph stopwatch.

Released in 1995 and offered in six colours, it is part of Mani's range of Game Boy shaped gadgets, alongside the Time Boy clock, the Calculator Boy and the Walkie Talkie Boy already catalogued in the collection. Powered by a single SR41 silver-oxide cell, it is a typical piece of the Game Boy merchandising that spread the console's look well beyond gaming in the mid-1990s.
