Super Mario Land was Mario's first Game Boy game, launched with the console in 1989. It was meant to be the system's showcase until Nintendo of America chose to bundle Tetris, yet it still sold more than 18 million copies, outselling even Super Mario Bros. 3, and spawned two sequels.
This Japanese strategy guide, published by ASCII in 1989, is a companion from the same year as the game. Super Mario Land and its sequels are also catalogued in the collection.
