Horror games were essentially absent from the original Game Boy, since the genre did not fit Nintendo's game policy of the time.
In 2022 a small indie studio set out to change that with Deadeus, an authentic Game Boy horror game built using Chris Maltby's GB Studio engine, with music by Stuart Busby. A boy has a prophetic nightmare that everyone in his village will die in three days, and the player investigates how, or whether, they can be saved. The game has 11 endings and no fixed path. Pictured is the sealed physical edition; it was also released as a ROM download.
