Fresh Find: A USB-C Power Pack for the Original Game Boy
The Game Boy's hunger for AA batteries has been solved many times, but rarely as neatly, or as modernly, as this. The latest arrival is an unofficial power pack that upgrades the original console to rechargeable USB-C power, a very present-day answer to a very old complaint.

What It Is
The pack combines a 2,500 mAh lithium battery, a power-management module and a replacement battery cover fitted with a USB-C connector for recharging. In other words, it does away with disposable cells entirely and lets you top the console up from the same cable that charges a modern phone. It is a modding solution rather than a period accessory, made by and for enthusiasts who want to keep playing original hardware without a drawer full of AAs, and it slots into the original battery compartment to do it.
Why It Joined the Collection
The collection documents not only the Game Boy's past but its living present, the modern modding scene that keeps the 1989 hardware in daily use. This power pack sits among those contemporary projects, and it makes a lovely counterpoint to the vintage battery solutions elsewhere in the collection: the same problem, thirty years apart, answered first with clip-on packs and now with USB-C. Together they show that people never stopped trying to keep the little grey machine running, and that the effort continues to this day.
The GB Power Pack is documented, with photographs, on its own page in the collection.
